Twenty dental clinics have been closed in Tbilisi and the regions because of unsanitary conditions and the high risk of Hepatitis C. Deputy Health Minister Valeri Kvaratskhelia stated that the monitoring in dental offices was carried out in the framework of the hepatitis C program through which dental clinics in Tbilisi and most regions of Georgia have been checked in order to eliminate the threat of hepatitis C and other infections.
“From the 20 clinics that failed to meet standards, five have already re-opened, as they have implemented our recommendations,” he said.
He also added that the monitoring has been beneficial to society.

U.K-Five Patients Test Positive for Hepatitis C in Mass Screening Following Hygiene Alert in Nottingham
Health bosses have confirmed that five patients have tested positively for hepatitis C in a mass screening programme set up after concerns were raised about the hygiene practises of a Nottinghamshire dentist.Patients who had received treatment at Daybrook Dental Practice from Mr Desmond D’Mello were contacted by the NHS to encourage them to go for blood tests after it was reported that the dentist did not clean his hands between patients and employ the relevant infection control procedures. Mr D’Mello had been working at the practice for many years and in total, more than 22,000 people were contacted. In the largest ever NHS recall, 4,526 patients were tested and five were diagnosed with hepatitis C. There were no cases of HIV or hepatitis B. Read more...

UK: Five former patients of HIV-scare dentist Desmond D'Mello test positive for hepatitis C
Five former patients of a dentist at the centre of the biggest recall in NHS history have tested positive for hepatitis C, it emerged.
Health chiefs wrote to 22,000 people treated by Desmond D’Mello urging them to undergo tests after he breached hygiene regulations.
The 60-year-old dentist was secretly filmed failing to wash his hands or change equipment between appointments at his practice.
